Microsoft ended Windows
7 support on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. Microsoft no longer offers
patches, security updates, or customer support for Windows 7.

What does that mean to
you?

If your company has
windows 7 computers running, your network is at risk. Hackers are continuously
working to find new bugs or problems to compromise computers. As there are no
new updates, new bugs will not be fixed and will leave Windows 7 computers open
for potential security breaches. It’s not a question of if, it’s a question of
when. Eventually, a hacker will develop a virus or spyware that will be able to
compromise Windows 7 computers on a large scale.

“A chain
is only as strong as its weakest link.”

What to do to minimize
risk?

1 – Purchase of
new computers. New computers that are optimized for windows 10 will
provide the best performance and security updates.

2 – Upgrade
computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Depending on the age of your
computer, it may have been purchased with a Windows 10 license. If the computer
is older, it will need a Windows 10 license. Performance after the upgrade may
decrease based on the age and compatibility of the older computer.

3 – Computer
Isolation. In some cases, a company needs to keep legacy windows 7 computers
due to proprietary software or specific compatibility with legacy hardware.
These situations should be evaluated on a case by case basis. ECS recommends
isolating the legacy computers or remove/restrict the active internet
connection.
